With 3.5 percent expected GDP loss from impact of environment depletion and degradation according to the World Bank report in 2019, Vietnam has decided to prioritize the transition to a circular economy in the next stage of the country's development. The transition to circular economy will help Vietnam to implement its “rapid and sustainable development” target in the Vietnam Socio-Economic Development Strategy 2011-2020.
In 2020, the Regional Policy Advocacy Component (RPAC) under the EU SWITCH-Asia Programme worked closely with Institute of Strategy and Policy on Natural Resources and Environment (ISPONRE) to develop the package of policy documents to support the mainstreaming process of circular economy into the country's national development plan. With financial support from the European Union and technical guidance from UNEP, the package of the policy documents was completed in 2020 through a scientific and participatory approach. It is today a strategic document to promote circular economy in Vietnam. In this package you will find:
- The Assessment Report: Incentives and Policy Instruments for Initiating The Transition To Circular Economy In Vietnam
- The Synthesis report: Evaluation of current status and recommendation on promotion of transition to circular economy in Vietnam
- The Policy Brief
