Malaysia, as a rapidly developing Southeast Asian nation, faces significant challenges in addressing plastic pollution due to its unique geographical, climatic, and economic circumstances. The country’s extensive coastline and tropical climate contribute to the complexity of the issue, while the robust national industrial sector, particularly in plastic manufacturing, adds to the scale of the problem.  One of the most pressing issues Malaysia faces in this regard is the low rate of plastic recycling. Despite efforts to promote recycling, the country struggles with insufficient recycling facilities and a lack of public awareness about proper waste segregation and disposal practices. This situation is further complicated by Malaysia’s role as a major importer of plastic waste.
