Circular Economy and Its Role for Climate Action

A circular economy is a regenerative system in which resource input and waste, emission, and energy leakage are minimized by slowing closing and narrowing energy and material loops. This can be achieved through long-lasting design, maintenance, repair, reuse, remanufacturing, refurbishing and recycling.

Taking into account the potential contribution of implemented circular economy in several sector such as plastic, in achieving GHG emission reduction, the Project Rethinking Plastics: Circular Economy Solution to Marine Litter in collaboration with Indonesia Circular Economy Forum (ICEF)-Greeneration Foundation Indonesia and the SWITCH-Asia Programme, will co-organise an online discussion on  “Circular Economy and Its Role for Climate Action” under the thematic area:  Transforming the Economy: Clean energy and circular economy, of the EU-Indonesia Climate Diplomacy Week 2021.

Objectives

  • Build public awareness on the contribution of circular economy to GHG emission reduction
  • Promote commitments and actions responding to climate change
  • Push for collaborative action between stakeholders
  • Raise visibility for EU ambition and leadership in accelerating climate change action
