The COVID-19 pandemic is having a dramatic effect on the jobs, livelihoods and well-being of workers and their families, and particularly on small and medium sized enterprises (MSMEs). While several sectors and industries have leveraged the potential of online media platforms to carry forward their businesses, millions of workers have lost their livelihoods and many more who are working in highly exposed sectors remain at risk.
Tourism, hospitality, and the food and beverage industries make a large contribution to the GDP and employment in many regions of the world. The COVID-19 pandemics, however, has hit the Kyrgyz Republic hard and triggered an unprecedented crisis in the Hospitality, Restaurant and Catering (HoReCa) sector and economy.
Hotels have changed their catering options, their occupancy rates have drastically fallen due to the high risk of travel and the need for social distancing, the borders of many countries are still closed, and people are also doing more of their own cooking.
In order to Build Forward Better and respond to the increasing current challenges facing the HoReCa industry in Kyrgyzstan, the EU SWITCH-Asia PERETO project and the Association HoReCa Club (ALE) have developed the COVID-19 Free Guide for the HoReCa Sector. The special feature of this resource is its focus on Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP).
PERETO aims at promoting energy and resource efficient technologies for small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in the tourism industry of Kyrgyzstan (hotels, restaurants, cafes) through the introduction of various tools. The main objective of this Guide is to provide the domestic HoReCa sector with the most comprehensive, useful and practical information to respond to the challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemics.
We hope that our practical Guide will help the HoReCa sector minimize waste, electricity and water consumption, encourage the use of gentle household chemicals to ensure disinfection of territories, premises, dishes, and choose reusable masks and dishes instead of disposable ones - PERETO Team
